Is TUFF GIRL for me?

We know the fear and trepidation that comes when you step into a new gym. We’ve been there. It is one of the reasons we exist. Because you deserve to feel safe, supported and welcomed as you become more. As you become a fitter, stronger, more powerful version of your already amazing self. We love coaching people at the start of their journey. We ask that you show up and treat everyone you meet with kindness and respect. We do ask that you give whatever you have on that given day, and have some fun in the process.

How old do I have to be to train?

You must be 13 years old to train with us.

Is Tuff Girl just for women?

While Tuff Girl was started as a place for women, it has evolved and grown into an inclusive community of amazing people. We value the diversity of racial and cultural identity and background, nationality, sexual and affectional orientation, gender identity and its expression, religious background and belief, marital status, family structure, age, political perspective, and educational and class status. All are welcome here.

Can I come in and do my own thing?

No, we do not offer open gym. We offer one hour classes programmed, led and coached by a strength coach. We take all the guesswork out of it, all you need to do is show up and bring what you have. If you are looking to go it alone, we are not the gym for you. We value community, connection and coaching.

Where do I start?

Where you are. We all start as beginners and ask that you give yourself permission to show up, as you are, and honor your current strength and fitness level. Our team of amazing coaches will guide you through the flow of class, making sure you feel safe and supported as you work at your current level. They will provide suggestions, feedback and modifications, if needed.

Be brave. You can do hard things.

Do you offer any new member deals?

We sure do! If you have never been to Tuff Girl before, you can use our First Timer class option at check out to get your first class for just $15.

What can I expect during a training session?

The world can beat you up, we are a place where you can come for a lift, a reset, and to be reminded of your strength, power and ability to do hard things. We provide a healthy does of encouragement and positivity (we love to build you up!), a whole lot of education (we hope you learn something!) and lot of fun (we love to laugh and dance!). We also hope to provide an opportunity for you to realize that you are strong, powerful and capable.

Every coach performs movement prep at the start of class. This movement prep includes breathing, rocking, crawling, and other things to prepare for the awesomeness that is to come. After the warm-up, comes the good stuff! One of our amazing coaches will guide you through the workout, round by round, explaining the format and the movements, as well as making sure you are moving safely and staying in powerful positions. Every class finishes with some breaths, dance session and applause. (Just kidding about the dance sessions, although we do dance from time to time.)

How long are classes?

You can plan on being with us for a total of sixty incredible minutes. (Many tell us it's the best hour of their day. Not kidding.)

How many clients are in a class?

We have space for 22 amazing humans in each class. Every athlete has their own personal training space and dedicated equipment, including TRX straps, resistance bands, balls, a bench and weights. Please pre-register in MINDBODY for every class to ensure there is room for your awesome self. (Thanks a bunch for doing that!

Do you offer any discounts?

Sure do! We offer family a discount on our in-gym monthly memberships for family members who are living in the same household and a 15% college discount. The family discount will be taken off the lower priced plan. Please email support@tuffgirlfitnessct.com to set up a discounted plan.

What is your schedule?

We offer so many classes every day of the week so it would be confusing to list them all here. To see our full schedule, go HERE

What do I need to bring?

Bring your brave for starters. We know fitness can be intimidating and that is why we exist. So bring your brave, and we will help with the rest. Electrolyte enhanced water and super drying towels are not necessary, but welcome if you want to bring them. But for real, please bring water or a water bottle (we have a water fill station), and please make sure your shoes are clean, dry and have no dirt (or other dirty things) on them. We work so hard to keep our gym clean, and no one likes to plank in poo. We suggest training in flat soled training shoes, not in running sneakers or any sneakers that have a lifted heel as they can make lifting those heavy weights tricky. If you feel more comfortable, you are welcome to bring your own equipment. If you use lifting chalk, please bring your own.

Where does training take place?

Our amazing facility can be can be found in the Wilbur Cross Commons Business Park behind the Bed Bath and Beyond/CVS plaza off Dixwell Ave. Our address is 60 Connolly Parkway, #6A, Hamden, CT. We are the driveway after the CVS plaza on your left if you are coming from Dixwell Ave. We are located half way down on the left once you enter the business park.

Can I train at Tuff Girl if I’m pregnant?

Yes! Current research suggests strength training during pregnancy is safe for most women when done correctly, even if you are not currently strength training. We regularly integrate pregnant and post-partum women into our group classes with modifications, as needed.
